The explosive growth of cloud computing over the last decade has merged incredible computing power with a massive network: the Internet. It is the most productive merger in the history of business; we use this power to help people have better days.

Cloud Industry + Communication

The basic foundation of many of the cloud-based businesses is based primarily on messaging; the consumer provides a very specific type of communication to a service like PayPal and PayPal then coordinates all of the communication needed to fulfill the customer’s request.

Amazon is a massive marketing communications engine that converses with millions of people in different roles to drive the level of success it has achieved. They are masters of who needs to know what and when to deliver hard goods to people anywhere in the world.

Cognitive Science + Communication

The Affective.health DXP is built on a foundation of integrated communications and cognitive theories. This combination enables us to gather data that provides the highest possible measure of cognitive states.

We wanted to understand these cognitive states, different from pure emotions, as they applied to knowledge workers’ decision-making since they were now driving 80% of wealth creation. Previously we were measuring productivity by counting end results instead of understanding how we wound up with those results.

Behavior Change over Time

Part of the problem is that the successes and failures are often an integration of a set of decisions and actions over long periods of time, making it nearly impossible to deconstruct to find the weak links and failures.

There were some lessons from working in the then-emerging speech industry in the early 00’s; the more focused the objective of your measure, the more likely you were to gather something useful and actionable. Affective Measures

The Affective.health Confidence Measure, built from four attributes that were shown in many studies and observations to be essential for success in the pursuit of goals is the result of such work. The value is measuring confidence in relation to a particular goal or belief, such as their ability to positively alter diet or exercise habits or use a device on a regular, ongoing basis.

Contextual measures can also indicate what is lacking; a vision of success, a good feeling that you will succeed, the knowledge of what to do next, or a strength-sapping setback. Applying Theory to Healthcare

Our clients are looking for a way to make sure that their patient-consumers understand how to best access their healthcare and providers so that their satisfaction is as high as possible. At the same time, the patient-consumers would like the company to really “hear” their feedback on how to improve the patient journey.

Affective.health has focused our cloud-based communications system on this problem so that marketing, product/service delivery, patient-consumer care, and customer intelligence could all be gathered in one ongoing digital conversation.

Improved Outcomes for All

It is a Win-Win-Win in the truest sense; healthcare consumers achieve better overall health outcomes, healthcare providers build revenue through better results and more predictable outcomes, and society wins with reduced healthcare costs and more productive and healthy citizens.

“Healthcare consumers achieve better overall health outcomes, healthcare providers build revenue through better results and more predictable outcomes, and society wins with reduced healthcare costs and more productive and healthy citizens.”

Measuring what is wrong has been the path to improvement for most of our existence, measuring the cognitive factors that bias our thinking is a difficult factor to measure, perhaps impossible in any general way, but with a tight context and well-defined outcomes we can now assess with useful resolution the strength and valence of the required attributes to succeed.

With this in mind, people slowly adjust their perspectives and change their beliefs about the advantages and disadvantages of positive, life-altering behavior change. When we consider that an estimated 80% of chronic conditions can be delayed or avoided with lifestyle changes it is clear that there is no comparable way towards lowering the growing healthcare burden on citizens and governments.

There are great companies now working towards helping people to stay healthy instead of fixing us when we break, Affective.health is dedicated to helping those companies succeed in reducing suffering and costs on a massive scale.
